Simple DIY Silk Flower Arrangement

My inspiration for this project comes from a darling, French Country boutique located in the village of Oakley in Cincinnati, Ohio called the House of France. I have always admired their simply done flower arrangements, but could never bring myself to pay the hefty price tag for one of their Frenchy arrangements. On my recent trip to Ohio I decided it was time to make one of my own.

I am on the hunt for a good resource for these types of flowers. These are more papery than silk. I purchased at Hobby Lobby about a week ago for 40% off! Gotta love Hobby Lobby!

Project Supply List:
Flowers (10-15 Stems depending on how large your container is)
Styrofoam in Green
Preserved Moss Mat in Green
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Heavy Duty Flora Wire Cutters
Any type of Box, Wire or Wicker Basket
Serrated Knife
Sharpie Marker

1. Place container on top of foam.

  2. Trace bottom of container with your Sharpie marker.

3. Cut using serrated knife around traced line. An electric knife makes this much easier if you have one.

4. Size check... it fits, but as you can see there is foam that pops through the wire. I simply took my serrated knife and cleaned it up. It does not have to be perfect.

5. For my arrangement I needed to add another layer of Styrofoam and hot glued the pieces together.

6. Cover Styrofoam in the preserved moss hot gluing to the sides.

7. Once I was finished, I realized that I needed to cover about 2 inches on the top of the Styrofoam form so that it would not show through once I started adding my flowers.

8. It is better to cut too long than too short. I cut this stem two more times after this picture was taken.

9. Pushing the stem into the foam was a little more challenging than I thought. The stem would bend or not go down as far as I would like it. I found using a screwdriver to push through the Styrofoam first, helpful. I would drop a little hot glue down the hole to help is stay... I have cats.

10. Alternate colors and move around the container.

11. I forgot to mention that you should keep all of the leaves and set aside.

12. This is why... you are going to use the leaves to hide the gap, plus it adds a little something.

13. I tucked the leaves in using hot glue to hold. These leaves had a little bit of wire so I was able to shape.

14. J'ai terminé.
